The Mount Rowan Rangers started in the mid 1990's when a few members of the Ballarat Pistol Club decided they would like to try a shooting style known as Single Action which, at the time, was still relatively new to Victoria, but was going on in Queensland and had been going a while in South Australia.

At the Ballarat Pistol Club, Single Action started out as something of a 'fun' match, which was shot on Range 1, but had started to become more serious by the later 1990's as the shooters obtained more information and more shooters started taking it up.

When Brent Squires joined the club he was a keen fan of 'Western Action' and was interested in gaining more information on shoots, becoming affilliated with SASS (Single Action Shooting Society - USA) and also the SSAA in Queensland. From here Single Action has never looked back and has gained a keen following at Ballarat with the members hosting enjoyable Open Shoots and competing away at places like Ararat against their arch-enemies the 'Flint Hill Prospectors', and at Little River & Warrnambool as well as various shoots at interstate competitions. We now shoot on Range 6 where we have a lot more room and can design scenarios to better suit the 3 types of firearms we use.

The Rangers are a very friendly, social bunch and visitors on the 4th Saturday of every month are always welcome to come and see what Single Action is all about. We love to get new 'converts' to our style of shooting and always help new shooters with gear and plenty of encouragement while they are getting set up.

Our Open Shoots are always a lot of fun and are generally held at the end of June. We run this as a 2 day shoot with a great meal and lashings of comeraderie on the Saturday night. The shoots are designed with the utmost safety fun in mind and shooters of all abilities and ages are encouraged to take part.

Finally, this is a new website and will be under constant change as we add new pictures to the 'gallery' and goodies to the 'Store'. So please be sure to visit us again in the near future. And if you haven't tried Single Action shooting and would like to - refer to our 'contacts' page or enquire through a pistol club nearest you.
