Travel Insurance
|
We strongly recommend that you take out comprehensive travel insurance that will cover any overseas medical costs, before you depart. Confirm that your insurance covers you for the whole time you'll be away and check what circumstances and activities are not included in your policy. Remember, if you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel. Hospitalisation, medical evacuations, or even the return of the deceased's remains to Australia, can be very expensive.
Daily hospitalisation costs in Southeast Asia regularly exceed $800; return of remains from Europe in excess of $10,000. The cost of medical evacuations from the United States regularly range from $75,000 to $95,000 and sometimes up to $300,000. Medical evacuations from nearby Bali costs have exceeded $60,000. |

Dehydration
Symptoms
You feel
more and more tired, you can't be bothered to do anything, then when you
have wasted
2 days feeling ill, you decide there is something wrong and
see a doctor. He will give you between 1 and 2 Litres of
dextrose-saline
intravenous drip, not too unpleasant but it can be easily avoided. This is
all magnified if you are suffering
from a dose of the "squirts" at the
same time! Dehydration You must take precautions, and the more
alcohol you drink, the worse this problem becomes,
as to dissipate
the alcohol, your body requires even more fluids. Therefore, it is
very unwise to drink a beer if you are thirsty,
as this will only make
matters worse. Make sure you drink plenty of bottled water, at least 1
Litre per day if you are not acclimatised.
If you have been out in the
sun, or drinking vast amounts of beer, you can easily double this. .
Try not to get confused and drink things like Krating
Daeng (Red Bull), or Lippovitan,
as these tiny bottles contain stimulant
drinks that are high in caffeine they make the condition worse.
