      Notes.

      ANN DEVEREUX was born the fifth of eight children, the youngest daughter of Irish Rebel, JOHN DEVEREUX and HARRIET McCARTHY, and Grandaughter of First Fleeters, JOHN McCARTHY and ANN BEARDSLEY.
      The Devereux family lived at Herdsmans Cove near Green Point, Bridgewater in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania.
      Ann Devereux married William Hartley BUDD (circa 1838).
      No record of the Marriage can be found in Tasmania, as yet.
      The couple departed Hobart (10 Oct.1838) on the Brig, Francis arriving Melbourne (1 Nov.1838) via Launceston.
      (Under the name Hartley).
      They were also accompanied by another Devereux (Unknown).
      A Miss Devereux arrived Hobart (Aug.1840) on the Jan from Melbourne.
      A child was born to the couple (30 Jan.1840, Melbourne) named William Increase Budd (after Increase Robinson BELL) and baptised as an Anglican at St.James Church.
      Circa Mar.1840 the child died and was buried as a Catholic (probably at the Old Melbourne Cemetery, now under the Victoria Market).
      Ann was to die circa Nov.1840 and was also buried as a Catholic.
      At this time, W.H.Budd was a Master Builder in Melbourne, building the first Post Office, in Little Collins Street.
      Anns youngest brother, John William Devereux arrived in Portland Victoria (21 Mar.1836) having departed Hobart (circa 13 Mar.1836) on the Boadicea.
      He would have more than likely have meet the Henty Brothers at Portland.
      He was to become a shepherd and overseer at Rifle Downs Station near Digby in Western Victoria, marrying in 1851 to Mary OSBORNE (b.circa 1830, Co.Armagh Ireland).
      Even many years after the death of Ann, there appears to have been contact between the Devereux and Budd families, in that on the death of W.H.Budd (5 Nov.1888) a short notice appeared in the West Victorian Newspaper, the Hamilton Spectator.

      Anns Grandfather and First Fleeter, John McCarthy, arrived Melbourne (Dec.1839) on the Industry from Hobart.
      He lived with W.H.Budd for nearly 7 yrs.until his death (24 July 1846) at Kinlochchewe, north of Melbourne.
      No trace can be found of Anns two older Brothers, Alexander and Charles.
      Variations in the Spelling of DEVEREUX include, DEVERALL, DEVERAUX, DEVEREAUX, DEVEREUSE, DEVEREW, DEVERICKS, DEVERIEUX, DEVEROUX, DEVERUX etc.
      The christian names of the two brothers, Peter and Philip, were entered in the Church Baptismal Register in Latin, by the Officiating Minister ie: Petrus and Phillipus.

      Addendum.

      1. At the time Harriet Devereux married Patrick McCabe (1830), both are recorded on the marriage certificate as resident at Bagdad.
        When Harriet remarried George Morton (1849), George is recorded as a Tailor.
        On his death George was also recorded as a Tailor, aged 74 years, birthplace given as England, and cause of death was Apoplexy (a Stroke).

      2. At the time Mary Ann Devereux married Thomas Willets (1832), both are recorded on the marriage certificate as resident at Broad Marsh.
        Thomas Willetts and his brother, Charles, were tried at the Stafford Quarter Sessions, England, 16 October 1822 and sentenced to seven years for stealing wearing apparel.
        They left England 18 March 1823 on board the Competitor and arrived in Hobart 3 August 1823.
        According to the 1842 Census, Thomas Willet lived in a wooden dwelling at Port Cynet with seven other people.
        Charles Willet married Elizabeth Scott in Hobart in 3 Jan.1834.
        In the 1842 Census, Charles Willett lived in a wooden dwelling at Port Cygnet with his wife.
        According to the 1852 Census, Charles Willetts lived at Gardners Bay with his wife and daughter.
        He bought 14 and a half acres of Crown Land at Gardners Bay in 1855, selling it in 1856 before moving to Hobart where he ran the Seven Stars in Campbell Street.
        He died in 1875.

      3. Peter Devereuxs funeral departed from the Epsom Hotel, Brighton. (16 Jul.1886, Hobart Mercury). Like many death notice of the time, it did not state where the funeral was destined for.
        It has been discovered that Peter was buried at Brighton Plains Cemetery, and at some later date, the headstone (with several others) was removed to St.Marks, Pontville.
        However it appears his remains were never exhumed and removed.

      4. Daniel ORourke and his first wife, Catherine (Dunn), arrived in Tasmania on board the ship, Strathfieldsaye, on 24 Jan.1833. There were also 2 children, James(3) and Margaret (2).
        Catherine died in childbirth, 2 Nov.1842, aged 33 years, Hobart, giving birth to Daniel.
        It was Daniels daughter, Christina, that married the brother of Daniels second wife.

      5. Mary Ann Devereux died at Macquarie St. Hobart, aged 50 years, a Farmers wife and birthplace given as Brighton. Cause of death was Chronic Bronchritis and Pneumonia.

      6. Patrick McCabe is buried with his sister, Catherine Horner (d.7 Jul.1864, aged 56) and her husband, Francis Horner (d.12 Mar.1872, aged 73) at St.Marys RC Church at Hobart.
        Patrick died of Natural Causes, aged 49 years.
