      Emma was aged 28 years, occupation a calenderer, and resident at 42 John St. Chorlton upon Medlock, the same address as her husband, John, the informant.

      A Calender is a machine that adds a satin finish to ribbon or tape. The operator (calenderer) would have have detected and straightened, tangled or twisted fabric, entering the machine. May have also dampened the fabric by spraying a fine water mist, as it entered the machine.

      It appears John may have been a Paper Waste Dealer, as Charles Lawson, was a Commercial Traveller (Paper Waste).
