Edward Thomas BUDD b.1879.
Parents - William Hartley BUDD (Farmer)/ Alice CORRY.
MARRIED.
I have been unable to trace Edward Thomas Budd.
One Funny Story I can relate, is that when Edward was a boy on the Farm at Wallan, the Family were seated around the Dinner Table, Edwards mother,
Alice, said get that Dog outside as it stinks to high heaven.
What do we know ?
In the Australian 1906 Federal Electoral Roll, Edward is recorded as a Blacksmith, of Cue, Coolgardie, Western Australia.
Edward arrived in the USA, 30 Apr.1918, Seattle, Washington, on board the S.S.Makura, which sailed from Sydney, 2 Feb.1918.
We know from his WW1 Registration Card, that Edward enlisted in the U.S.A. Army on the 12 Sept.1918 at Raymond, Pacific County, in the State of Washington.
Raymond circa 1915, population was 6,000 and had a reputation as a wild and wooly Timber Milling Town.
We also know from the 1920 U.S.A. Census (taken 1 Jan.) that Edward is in the H.H.V. Hospital in Groveland, Tuolumne County, California.
It is unlikely Edward saw or was Wounded in War Action, as the War ended some two months after he enlisted.
Edward is recorded as arriving San Francisco, 28 Jan.1928, on board the Hawaki, which departed Suva, Fiji, 7 Dec.1927.
Also known from the Obituary on the death of Edwards brother, Arthur Budd, 12 Aug.1941 at Rushworth Victoria, that Edward is resident in Fiji.
Born - 8 Jul.1879, Wallan Victoria.
Baptised - Unknown.
Died - Unknown.
Buried - Unknown.
Unknown.
Whether he got Married and had Children is Unknown ?
It is said that Edward tried to enlist with the Australian Army at the beginning of World War 1,
but was rejected, as previously he had suffered a Broken Arm on the Farm (how things changed towards the end of the War).
Apparently he went to America (the United States or Canada ?) and joined the Army as a Captain.
Whether he had basic Military Training in Australia is Unknown, but apparently the Americans were desperate for men who were trained.
He apparently saw Action in Europe (France or Gallilopi ?) and was wounded (shot) in the Stomach.
Recouperating back in America, when fit, he visited Australia and was last heard of in Fiji or New Guinea,
where he apparently purchased a Banana, Coconut or Coffee Plantation.
To join the Armed Forces in America, Edward may have had to become a Citizen of that Country.
Edward piped up and said mother, it not the Dog, its me !!!
He may have gone West, like many others, lured by Gold.
He is recorded as single, aged 38, and is a Blacksmith. His last permanent residence is Suva, Fiji.
The name & address of his nearest relative or friend from whence he came from, is friend, Henry Marks, of Suva.
He gives his occupation as a Blacksmith and Machinist, and Employer as Raymond and Son Company.
Address as the Lincoln Hotel, Raymond and nearest Relative as Alfred Budd (his brother) of Killmore, Victoria.
Note the Spelling of Kilmore !!!
Edward was recorded as Tall in Height, Stout in Build, Colour of Eyes, Grey, and Colour of Hair, Dark.
The U.S.A. did not enter WW1 until 16 April 1917, when it declared war on Germany.
Built on Stilts six feet above the tidal plains of the Willapa River and Bay, it was located in one of the most fertile tree growing regions in the World.
See Map below:

His occupation is given as an Engineer at a Power House and year of Immigration, as 1917.
He is still Single and an Australian Citizen.
Note sure what H.H.V. stands for - Hospital for Home Veterans ?
He is described as height 5ft.11 inches, weight 196 lbs. age 48, has a tatoo on the right arm, and has been employed on the ship as a Wiper for 5 years.
A wiper is the most junior crewmember in the engine room of a ship. The role of a wiper consists of cleaning the engine spaces and machinery, and assisting the engineers as directed.
By 16 May 1953, on the death of his brother Alfred Budd, at Bendigo Victoria, Edward has predeceased.
No more is known.
