Edward Budd Hartley was baptised Edward Budd but like many in the family adopted his fathers Step-fathers Surname (Hartley) and then reversed the two Surnames.

At the time John Budd HARTLEY married Elizabeth BRADSHAW (1866), he gives his age as 24 years, is a BoilerMaker, and resident at 21 Sheffield St.Hulme.
He states his father is Edward Budd HARTLEY.
Elizabeth is aged 21 years, is a Weaver, and resident at 55 Chester St.Hulme.
She states her father is Jesse BRADSHAW, and her fathers occupation is a Mechanic.
The two witnesses were Thomas George ALCOCK and Mary Ann Budd HARTLEY (sister).

In the 1871 England Census (taken on night 2 Apr.), John Budd Hartley, his wife, Elizabeth Hartley Budd and two children are resident at 16 Rosamond St. Chorlton upon Medlock, Manchester.
Johns age has been incorrectly recorded. It should read 28, not 38 years.

I could not find John Budd Hartley and family in the 1881 England Census (taken on night 3 Apr.).
16 Rosamond St. Chorlton upon Medlock, is Unihabited in this Census.
However John Budd Hartley can be found in the following Slater Directories of Manchester and Salford.
