      Notes.

At the time John POORE married Kathleen ANDREW (1915), John is resident at Walter St. Ascot Vale.
He is aged 21 years, and gives his occupation as a Soldier.
John gives his fathers name as John POORE, and his fathers occupation as a Furniture Manufacturer.
Kathleen is resident at Ascot Vale, is aged 17 years, and is a Lady.
She gives her fathers name as Thomas ANDREW, and his occupation as a Railway Employee.
John and Kathleen give their mothers name as Jean DOUBLEDAY and Ellen MORGAN respectively.
Because of Kathleens age, she had to obtain special dispensation from her father, Thomas Andrew, to get married.

It is unknown why the births of the four children of Kathleen ANDREW and John POORE, were also registered under HOBBS.
Maybe the mother of John POORE remarried.
When the four children were young, their parents marriage broke up, and the children were put into a home.
John Poore apparently re-married, as did Kathleen.
Kathleens second husband, William Percival Hambridge, appears not to have been previously married, and served in the A.I.F. in WW1.
From the Newspaper death notice of William, his siblings include, Sebina (Mrs.English, dec.), Henry, Les (dec.), Eily (Mrs.Lewis), Roy, Ron (Mrs.Hogan) and Phonse.

      The Elusive John David POORE.

It is said that John remarried 17 Oct.1924, Florence May WILLIAMS, Tasmania, but no record of the marriage can be found.

On his marriage to Kathleen, John gives his birthplace as Melbourne (1895), on the birth of his daughter, Jean, to Kathleen, he gives his birthplace as Redfern NSW, and on the birth of his son, William, to Florence, John gives his birthplace as Brisbane.

Johns two sons, John and William, were made Wards of the State (8 Nov.1931), as their father was sent to prison (Coburg) for 46 days, for not paying an employee the correct wage, and their mother, Florence, was unable to care for them.
At this time John and Florence, and the two boys, were using the surname Munro.
There were also warrants, for the arrest of John, under the name Hobbs.
The following article appeared in the Argus, 17 Nov.1931, p.5, titled - Punished for Trying, Judge on Ingratitude.

John David Munro, aged 35 years, Labourer, Hodgson Street, West Brunswick, pleaded guilty before Mr.Justice McArthur in the Criminal Court yesterday to a charge of having at Preston, on October 26, stolen a stove and copper and stand, the property of the War Service Homes Commission.
Munro said that he has stolen the goods to obtain money to buy food for his wife and himself, as they were both starving.
He had been turned out of place after place because he was unemployed and could not pay the rent.
Mr.Book (Crown Prosecuter) said that Munro was serving a sentence of imprisionment for 46 days for having failed to pay the correct rate of wages determined by a wages board.
Mr.Justice McArthur - how does he come to be an employer ?
Munro - I hired a double-horse vehicle to cart wood from the country, and entered into a kind of partnership with another man.
Mr.Justice McArthur - It looks like one of thse cases where a man who is struggling, and who attempts to do something, is punished for paying less than the prescribed wage. This is the only gratitude which is shown towards him. This sort of thing is happening, over and over again.
Munro - They have now seized my furniture. Everything is gone.
      Munro was remanded for sentence.
Mr.Justice McArthur asked to be furnished with additional information regarding Munro.

      Sentenced, Argus, 1 Dec.1931, p.11.

John David Munro, aged 35 years, labourer, Hodgson Street, West Brunswick had pleaded guilty to a charge of having, at Preston, stolen a stove and copper and stand, the property of the War Service Homes Commission.
Mr.Justice McArthur said that he was at first inclined to take a lenient view of the offence which Munro had committed, but when he had come to look into the matter he had found that it was not only a case of stealing.
Munro had fraudulently persuaded the agent to allow him to go to the house under the pretence that Munro intented to rent it.
Munro would be sentenced to imprisonment for six months.

John was also sentenced for the same offence, as John David Hobbs, by Justice Wasley, Argus, 11 Dec.1931, p.4.

In the Criminal Court yesterday John David Hobbs, aged 35 years, labourer, of West Brunswick, pleaded guilty to a charge of larency of a gas-stove.
