      Both Louisa and William, were both resident at 16 Charlie Place.

      William CARTER was previously married to Hannah YATES (Louisas fathers sister).

      At the time Hannah YATES married William CARTER (1863), Hannah is aged 20 years, and resident at 78 Fairfield St.
      Hannah gives her fathers name as John YATES, and her fathers occupation as a Police Officer.

      William Carter (b.1880) worked for Ferranti Engineers, and so the family story goes, thought he could improve on Ferrantis way of working so set up his own engineering company and employed his sister Hannah and brother Fred.
      The firm was called Carter Brothers in Ashton under Lyne.
      William retired in 1948. Hannah continued to work there until probably the mid 1950s.
      Fred had a stroke and was bed ridden for many years.
      Carter Brothers building was inherited by my mother Edith and older sister Eleanor and sold by me and my brothers in 1970/71.

      What became of the two daughter, of William CARTER & Hannah YATES, Maria & Alice:

      Maria (b.1865) married 25 Sept.1891, John JARVIE, Christ Church, Bradford, Manchester by banns. He 29, Cabinet Maker of 25 Wardlow Stand. She 25, of 74 Grey Mare Lane.
      His father, a Joiner.
      Witnesses - William HOLMES and Alice CARTER (sister).
      A Maria Jarvie died Sept.Qtr.1903, aged 38, Ormskirk.
      She met John Jarvie on a cycling holiday in the Lake district. John Jarvie married again, 1909, Kitty CARTER (no relation ?). 1911 census says Hetty.
      John later lived in Glossop, Derbyshire (outskirts of Manchester).

      In the 1901 England Census (taken on night 2 Apr.), Maria and her husband, John, are resident at 103 Nelson St.Bradford, North Manchester.
      John JARVIE remarried Sept.Qtr.1909, Kitty CARTER, St.Pauls Church, Bradford.
