      Notes.

The youngest daughter of William Hartley Budd and Alice Corry of Wallan, Mary Rosetta Budd married Charles Christopher Stockdale, the second son of William Hallet Stockdale and Agnes Heavey of Darraweit Guim, near Wallan.
Mary Rosetta was often referred to as Aunty Doll.
After their marriage, the couple moved to Corowa on the northern side of the Murray River in NSWs.
In Corowa they had the Agency for Overlander and Willys-Knight Motor Cars.
In his younger days, Charles was a first-class Footballer, playing for Fitzroy in the Melbourne League.
In Corowa he was Captain and Coach, circa 1927, of the Corowa Stars Football Team.
A brillant Foot-Runner, Charles won many Handicapped Foot-Races.
Prior to his death, Charles had worked at the Government Munnitions Store Dump at Oaklands and had been receiving medical treatment from his Doctor at Urana, for a Heart complaint.
The Store later became a Cereal Storage for the Uncle Toby Mill at Wahgunyah.

Charles two sisters, also married into the Budd family, marrying two brothers of his wife.

      ie:

      1. Elizabeth Eileen Stockdale m.1909 Urban Arthur Budd.
      2. Margaret Mary Stockdale m.1913 Victor Jerrald Budd.

The above two couples settled in Rushworth.
All three Marriages took place at St.Francis RC Church in Melbourne.
It was not uncommon for two siblings to marry two siblings from another family, especally in country areas, but it is uncommon for three siblings to marry three siblings from another family.
Mary Rosettas sister, Alice May and her husband, John William Doughney, also lived in Corowa.

The only child of Charles and Mary, William Hubert Stockdale, enlisted in the RAAF in Melbourne on 15 Aug.1941.
At the time of enlistment, he was resident in Corowa.
Training at Wagga Wagga at the No.5 Special Flying School, he completed the No.19 Pilots Course (Feb.1942-23 Jul.1942) graduating as a LAC (Leading Aircraftman).
In England he flew Sunderland bombers. I think he was in 10th squadron, maybe 30th.
After the war had finished, as he was waiting for his passage home, Bill was an extra in movies at Earling Studios, London.
He was finally discharged from the RAAF on 26 Feb.1946 at No.2 Personnel Depot, at Bradfield Park, Sydney.
Again taking up flying after the war, he worked as a Commercial Pilot for ANA or TAA, and then went into advertising and became quite an accomplished Graphic Artist.
He was reasonably well known in Melbourne Social Circles and Politicians attended his and Joys wedding. (about 1946).
      He had 2 sons.
Simon was killed by a drunk driver when he was 17. He was waiting at the traffic lights on his motor bike. He was a budding Film Artist and had won many awards.
At the time of his death, he was an Assistant Film Editor with the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC).
Both Simon and David went to Brighton Grammar.
Bill had an excellent sense of humour and was very forthright in telling you what was right and wrong.

Charles parents married in 1884 and are both buried in the Wallan Cemetery.
His wife is buried (no headstone) adjacent to two of Charles brothers, Byran and Peregrine, both who never married, and died 10 Feb.1950 and 2 Dec.1960 respectively.
Like his father, Charles was One of Twelve Siblings.
One of Charles brothers, also William Hallet Stockdale, was killed (8 May 1915) at Gallipoli in the first World War.
It is said he was shot while disembarking from a landing boat and was dead before he hit the water.
His name is Commemorated in a Memorial on the tip of the Gallipoli Peninsula.
Both Hallet and Perigine are family names in the Stockdale family.
The Stockdales were for many years Farmers at Darraweit Guim.
Charles grandfather, also William Hallet Stockdale was born in Drimpton Dorset England.
He emigrated as an Unassisted Cabin Passenger on the Agneta which departed London, arriving in Melbourne, 22 Apr.1855.
There appears to have been no other relative on board.
In 1857 he married Margaret Cummins a native of Thurles Tipperary Ireland.
You have probably guessed it, Mary Rosetta didnt carry on the Stockdale family name of Hallet.

In the 1841 England Census (taken on night 6 Jun.), William Hallet Stockdale, is living with his parents and his brother at Drimpton, in the Parish of Broadwinsor, Dorset.
There also appears to be Williams grandmother present.
