      I could not find Samuel Hartley Budd or Jane Stephenson in the 1851 England Census.
      But it must be remembered, that part of the 1851 Manchester Census was water damaged, due to a flood.

      At the time Samuel Hartley BUDD married Jane STEPHENSON (1854), he is a Boiler Maker.
      He gives his fathers name as John Hartley BUDD, and fathers occupation as a Boiler Maker.
      Jane gives her fathers name as Thomas STEPHENSON, and his occupation as a Butcher.
      Both are of full age, and give their residence as Chapel St. Ancoats.

      In the 1856 letter from John Budd in Manchester to his brother, William Hartley Budd in Australia, John writes:

      I have a Son Samuel Married about 3 years since has 2 Children and they are 2 fine Boys he is my Foreman he is a very good Lad and I am happy to say he Makes a good Husband and Father.

      In the 1861 England Census (taken on night 7 Apr.), Samuel Hartley Budd, his wife, Jane Hartley Budd and three children are resident at 216 Great Ancoats St. Manchester.
      There is also a visitor, Janes half-brother, Robert Kay, who is Unmarried.

      It is said Samuel Hartley had a factory in Manchester and may have lost the factory gambling.
      He may have Inherited his fathers factory, the Victoria Boiler Works in Ancoats, Manchester.
      Darlington Durham, is near Barton, North Yorkshire, the birthplace of Samuels wife, Jane.
      It is said that some of the family maybe buried in a family crypt at Barton.
