Ernest, the youngest child of William & Elizabeth, died as a result of a Motor Cycle accident.
On 31 May, Ernest was riding a Motor Cycle and Sidecar, which was being towed down William St. towards Bazaar Terrace, by another Motor Cycle driven by his brother, William.
As the two vehicles were passing the Temple Court Building, the rope slackened, and suddenly tightened again, over turning the towed Cyle upon Ernest, resulting in a fractured Skull.
A month later, Ernest died in Hospital.
Ernest was a Carpenter at Millars Timber & Trading Company.

The Chappell family were lifelong and devoted friends of David and Elizabeth PUGH and family, of Nedlands, Perth.

Gaele, grandaughter of William Chappell, recalls:

As Children, my sister, Carol and I, were spoilt by my fathers twin sisters, Alice and Sarah.
Alice was a magnificent Tailoress all her working life, when men had suits & trousers etc. made to measure.
She even did School Blazers for us.
Sarah was the stay at home, and an excellent cook, always espicially making our Birthday Cakes and decorating them superbly, (what lovely memories we have).
We were told of Dads brother, Ernest, who as a very young man, had been killed. His coffin was left in the front room at Croft Bank, 82 Stirling Highway, Mosman Park, for a few days.
Apparently this was not unusual in those times.
Because of this memory, my Aunts never used this particular room - the door was always kept shut.
They shifted to a duplex in Dianella when the property became too much work.
Croft Bank remains standing today, only the street numbering has changed.
I was only a few months old when both my Chappell grandparents passed away.
We were not told of any other relatives of William Chappell in Australia, just that my Grandfather had emigrated from Manchester.
