The Daylight is Dying, Away in the West
Johanna Beach, Great Otway National Park (2003)

The title of this image is taken from the A.B. 'Banjo' Paterson's emotive verse, "The Daylight is Dying". Far from being a perfect picture, it nevertheless captures Johanna Beach on a typical evening as the sun goes down. Uncharacteristically, the sea is calmer here than usual, but still allowing some play in the water as it comes in and out around the eroded sandstone outcrops featured elsewhere in this gallery.

I have made better images at Johanna, but this scene with its wide, curving water struck me as wonderful to look at. The sea waits for no-one. You can either stand there and watch it and try and remember it, or take your camera and capture a moment that will never quite be repeated the same ever again. I always endeavour to take the latter and often more difficult path.
