When Mary Jane's first husband died she and her baby son lived with her mother and stepfather Eliza and Samuel HOCKEY. When Mary Jane remarried her son Thomas SIMPSON was 5 years old and he stayed in the care of his grandparents. Samuel and Tommy were very fond of each other. In his will Samuel left Thomas 7 acres of land known as the Lyon's Paddock. Thomas SIMPSON was the informant at the deaths of Samuel HOCKEY (2 Mar 1886) and Eliza HOCKEY (14 Jul 1886). Tommy SIMPSON (aged 41) was a pall bearer at the funeral of William Samuel GUY (Samuel's son-in-law) on 14 Jun 1908 at Staffordshire Reef.
