George (William) ROBERTS was born 22 November 1839 Pittwater, Tasmania, son of William ROBERTS/Sarah NEWPORT 
George ROBERTS was chr 4 Feb 1840 in the Parish of Sorell, County of Pembroke, Tasmania s/o William and Sarah ROBERTS 
In February 1852 William and Sarah ROBERTS with their son George, aged 12, sailed on the schooner Gem from Launceston to Port Phillip (Melbourne) [POL 20/9/1 p588]
George ROBERTS, when he was about 19 yrs of age, had a relationship with Eliza WEST which produced a baby, George William ROBERTS born 27 Oct 1859 at Little River [Vic 19706] George William ROBERTS died in 1860 at the age of 5 mos [Vic 2306] (Information from Meg Bate)
There is no burial record for this infant for Little River (formerly Rothwell) Cemetery. However, a William ROBERTS aged 83 was buried at Rothwell Cemetery in 1869 [Code U, Burial Register from 1860 indexed by Werribee Family History Group] William ROBERTS d 1869 aged 83 yrs, bp Cambridgeshire, parents unknown [Vic 3956] Cambridgeshire adjoins Bedfordshire where our William ROBERTS is thought to have been born abt 1795 from a sole record, his trial in 1823.
Eliza WEST married John EADES in 1861 [Vic 3592] and 8 chn were born 1862-77 at Little River (John Ball)
There is a collection of envelopes addressed to George ROBERTS which are postmarked Tasmania (writer unknown) as follows:
George William ROBERTS, Storekeeper, died 5 February 1917 aged 78 yrs Creswick District Hospital, parents not known, bur 7 Feb 1917 Creswick Cemetery, Methodist. Informant was Albert ROBERTS, Son, of Spring Mount. Birthplace was Bream Creek, Tasmania, married aged 28 yrs at Spring Mount to Mrs Mary QUICK ms WASLEY. Eleven children were listed on the death certificate. [Vic Index 1152] Occupations from other records: Carter, Carrier, Waggoner, Timber Merchant, Groom, Farmer.
George William ROBERTS aged 26 yrs, Bachelor, Carter, bp Pittwater, Tasmania s/o William ROBERTS, Farmer and Sarah NEWPORT, were married 17 May 1865 in the private house of George William ROBERTS, Spring Hill, Creswick, Victoria according to the rites of the Wesleyan Methodist Church to Mary Sandow QUICK, 27 yrs, Widow, Home duties, bp St Ives, Cornwall, England d/o George WASLEY, Mason and Candace SANDOW. Present and usual residence for both was Spring Hill. Mary was widowed 9 Jul 1863. She had 2 living children and one who had died. Witnesses were Nathaniel Williams QUICK, brother of Mary's previous husband Edward and niece Jane Williams QUICK teenage daughter of Edward's sister Susan. [Vic Index 3756]
Mary Sandow WASLEY QUICK married George William ROBERTS who was formerly her groom on the QUICK farm. A map of the Parish of Creswick shows that George ROBERTS purchased land on 15 Sep 1871. This was a farming property of about 20 acres on the main road through Creswick on the corner of the Dean Road.
Mary (Sandow) ROBERTS died 20 Oct 1915 aged 77 years Spring Mount, Shire of Creswick d/o George WASLEY, Hotel Proprietor, and Mary WASLEY ms SANDOW. Mary was born St Ives, Cornwall, England and had been 58 yrs in Victoria, nee WASLEY, formerly QUICK.
