John left Gwennap as a young man when the mines were in decline to seek work in North Devon and other parts of England. He married a local Devon woman and had three sons named Nicholas, John and Joseph who all went to America. However John Jnr went first to Australia. John Jnr and Nicholas settled in Salt Lake City but Joseph's wife would not leave Devon so he returned there where he died. (This information comes via Judy Hazen from a great grand daughter of Joseph.)

Benjamin TREWEEK went to Australia, stayed about six years then returned to his wife and children in Cornwall where they had 3 more children. The sons of Benjamin and Jane all emigrated to the USA [JH]

Benjamin aged 31, Miner and Nicholas TREWEEK aged 28, Miner, left Liverpool on 17 Jan 1855 aboard the Australia which arrived in Melbourne in May 1855. The ship's master was M MOUNTAIN, 1170 tons, 620 ft, licensed for 44 passengers. On the voyage there was a total of only 40 passengers including 4 children and 4 cabin passengers. Of the 36 non-cabin passengers, 21 were English, 3 were Scotch and 12 were Irish. Listed on the same number as Benjamin and Nicholas [616] were James ROGERS 23, Stephen HARPUR 25, William DARBY 22 yrs. They were all English and all miners and could have been travelling together for some reason. [Unassisted Immigration to Victoria 093/007]
