magic eight ball

A decree from the Eight Ball itself, in all its black-and-white glory.

The Eight Ball was born in early 1998 when I was bored and had nothing else to do. After about two hours programming, I had done all the work I was ever going to do on the Eight Ball, and I haven't altered the program since. The concept was pretty simple and was one I had seen done before: ask the Eight Ball a question, press a button and it spews out a random reply.

For all it's worth, I've put the Magic Eight Ball program up on this page free to download. A PC and Windows 3.1 or later is all that is needed to run the program, and no payment is asked for (who would pay, anyway :-). Ignore all of my comments in the README.TXT file about future improvements; I wrote all of that last year before I stopped doing updates. All of the responses for my Eight Ball program are stored in the PREDICT.TXT file; just load it up in EDIT and change the responses to give it a more personal taste. The only problem is that you are limited to 50 responses, but this should be more than adequate for most peoples' purposes.

In case you are wondering, I wrote Magic Eight Ball using a RAD (Rapid Application Development) tool called Layout for Windows, Version 3.01d. It took hardly any programming know-how on my part because the whole program was assembled in flowchart fashion (i.e. pre-programmed "blackboxes" were linked together and compiled without the need for code).
